D-380 Help Needed

I bought my wife a D-380 for her recent trip to VA. Today I downloaded the 59 pictures she took. This was the first time to be connected to my XP machine. I went outside and took some pictures and came back in and tried to download mine and I get the "device not ready" message. What I noticed is the USB "sound" when you plug it in is flat sounding. I tried another USB device and it works (and sounds) correct. What am I doing wrong?

Just a guess, but if the camera is still running on batteries, they may be too low to power the picture transfer. If that is the case, have you tried putting freshing batteries in it. For some cameras, using the camera to transfer the pictures via usb rather than some other adapter will drain the camera batteries pretty fast.

Well I forgot the first thing to do with a computer problem...Reboot! All works good now.
