Do any of you out there hunt the Highlands Lake Area of D-6? I have hunted this area for 30 years and each year is getting worse and worse. DFG needs to get off of thier --- and do something about this. Scouted the area for two months before the season and found very little sign and like an ediot hunted the rifle opener for six days without seeing a deer, yes thats right not one deer. I also talked with 17 other hunters who hunted this same area and only found one doe. This area was a great area at one time and you would not have a problem seeing 10 to 20 deer a day with some very nice bucks. To many cattle, no water, over grown old trees and forest ground cover that needs to be burned off for new growth in the back country. Way to many tags are sold in this zone. 10,000 is way out of line. USFS needs to get involved as well. But then again D-3 thru D-5 sells 30,000 tags.
The sad thing is that our youth are our future and when my step son says on a trip home from hunting Wyoming "Why hunt California anymore? save your money for other western states that have much better deer hunting" Sorry but I can't disagree with him.
