Hey guys,
I grabbed a deer Tag for zone D10. Looking for ANY public land to glass and grab a deer or a nice Hog this year. I know there are ranches but charge a fee. Please tell me there is some BLM land left. I will be coming up from 58 towards Tehachapi. . Names, roads , or Mountain names would be most helpful.

What little public land there is in D10, is land-locked by private property with no access to it. This is why the DFW "Big Game Digest" booklet states, "D10 - No public land available; hunting normally restricted to landowners and permittees." Tejon Ranch, as well as smaller ranches in D10, require an "access fee" for hunters ("permittees"). Prices vary but they are not cheap. Elk hunters in the area pay anywhere from $15,000 to $85,000 for this access fee.

You should be able to get a refund or get it changed. Do it now after season starts you won’t be able to do anything

Contact fish and wildlife office and tell them you would like to exchange the tag or get a refund

MUDXICANHNTER - "You should be able to get a refund or get it changed. Do it now after season starts you won’t be able to do anything"

This is good advice.

California Code of Regulations, Title 14;

§708.4. Deer License Tag Exchange Fee.
The department shall not exchange any deer license tag for a different zone or hunt after the tag quota for the original tag zone or hunt fills for the season. The department shall not exchange a tag if the earliest season (either archery or general) for the tag being exchanged has opened. The department shall charge a nonrefundable processing fee, as specified in Section 702, for exchanging a deer license tag for a different zone or hunt. Applicants may apply at any department license sales office to exchange a deer license tag.

Section 702 sets the exchange fee as $9.00.

danielcrosshair - Hope this helps.

Agree with the others about turning it in . D14 can be a fun hunt , I would focus on that. hunted it a bunch when I lived down there. Pick an earlier zone that compliments that tag. “Maybe A zone”. If you have two tags in different areas at the same time it can be hard to do either one justice unless you get one early in the season . Good luck to you.
