I know that there were some meetings comming up about something like this, but I havent heard anything about it. I found in area to bow hunt, but it is in the shaded area of the had drawn map that you can get from the ranger station. I had a sheriff tell me that i could bow hunt this area but rifle, shotgun and gun of course was off limits. on the map it says no shooting but does this actually mean no bow hunting. the sheriff told me that it was legal to. any ideas, ive been tring to call but i get the run around treatment. i have a name and phone # of guy and left a message but he hasnt called back. should i post the guys name with ph# so we who hunt can get answers from this guy?? thx robert

Which map?

I got some map from the Discovery Center in Big Bear last year that had shaded areas that said you were not allowed to hunt, but at the bottom of the map it said the map was not for official use . I cannot seem to find an official map that shows legal or illegal hunting areas other than those showing public and private land. Could you post the map you have?

Lets see if this copy and paste works out. It is from a previous post this year by Jesse on 6/7/2009 in this forum.

PVEH,

Here is the old (current) San Bernardino County shooting map that covers SBNF. The new map has not been approved and the SB Fish & Game Commission is still fumbling with redrawing the new boundaries.

DO NOT use the map the SBNF is handing out at their NF offices mentioend above, whoever made that copy did NOT interpret the zones correctly and this was pointed out to DFG so they could contact SBNF and correct their handout map.

WTF, why even get a D-14 tag. They have pretty much everything closed.

What is the reason for closing part of the national forest to hunting?

Closed to hunting or closed to shooting rifles and pistols, and maybe shotguns? I remember a teacher in school got shot in the arm in Mammoth Lakes by a distant someone shooting a rifle out in the forest. There is now a no-shooting zone around Mammoth Lakes and for National Forest Land around a lot of towns and recreational areas (lakes especially).

That handout map that SBNF is handing out is flat out wrong. This has been pointed out to the DFG wardens, Paul Franklin the sheriff who patrols Barton Flats area and SB County Fish n Game Commission. I've asked the DFG to ask SBNF to stop handing out that map because it's so wrong.

Use the SB Co shooting map that is listed above, it's what is legal right now.

I will ask again at the next SB Fish n Game meeting to have the wardens and SB Co Fish N Game Commission to please ask SBNF to stop handing that map out.

Carry copies printed off of the SB shooting map and if you are challenged show them the LEGAL shooting map and not some SBNF's employees wrong interpretation of the map.

I have the same boundaries superimposed on a SBNF - Forest Service map that is dated October 1981.

Per the San Bernardino Fish n Game Commission and DFG wardens present, the SB Co. Shooting Map is the law right now unless it involves an incorporated area taken over by a city. I have them on film saying this.

That handout map is wrong since it's not the same as the SB Co. shooting map.

Coon Creek Rd for example by Heartbar. As long as you're not shooting across the road and away from the campsites you can hunt there with bow and shotgun with shotshells. No slugs. On the SBNF map they show the whole road and a corridor around it as off limits to hunting. What happened is someone goofed and made all the red on the county map as no hunting on the SBNF map. That is wrong. REd on the county shooting map is Shotgun with shotshells and bow hunting allowed. You can find it spelled out in the legend of the county map.

Check the county map link for yourself. http://www.specialdistricts.org/2/docs/FishandGameShootingAreas.pdf

Compare the red to the SBNF "NO Hunting" areas
