swampfox - Yes you need a board. There are several offered on this site and I've personally used Brians. It works well but does require you to do some soldering of the switches and to either the RS board or MS20.
Check with Hamiltoe or Brian to see if they offer a completed PIR and controller board so you can just wire things up.
I got a board from Brian with the rs pir already mounted and just had to add some buttons and a switch to my D-370. It was easier than doing my Owl and works great except some flash spot problems I am working now. Go for it and good luck. Treestandman2
