I think you meant to post this in the Mule Deer Section, but that's okay becasue there are always a few Blacktails around. I like D 6, in fact I got turned down on my second tag for this year. Apparently, the herd died off a few years back, and it's just starting to come back. That leaves large areas of the forest as a complete void, so hiking for them will only ware you out. That whole area in there past Eagle Meadows is good for does. They like the willow brush along the edges of the meadows, so all you have to do is wait them out. Sooner or later, they will wander out into a clear spot, and sometimes there will be a forky with them. Last year I hiked into Iceberg from Clarks Fork without seeing so much as a deer track, so that place is not much better. The X 12 deer (large white rump like an antelope) are up on the D 6 side of the Crest during the early part of the season. Parking places are very limited during rifle season, but a few wise bow hunters were up there last weekend during the rain.

The new 2010 Kennedy Meadows calendar has a picture of a herd of Inyo Mule Deer bucks on the November page. Well worth the $11.95 if you are a D 6 fan.

I keep getting mixed review...some of my archer buddies tell me there are deer, then some others say they didnt see a thing. I hear that every year though and still people keep leaving with meat in their truck. you just have to find the sweet spots being at the right place at the right time.
