So many people have entered the inaugural Dana Point Halibut Tournament that the organizer was forced to change the awards venue twice. It'll be at Proud Mary's in Dana Point.

Chris Badsey of Finnseeker Sportfishing, the event founder, figured maybe 50 anglers would enter the first event. But more than 200 registered.

"We didn't expect that many people," he said. "I couldn't believe the response."

The tournament is March 16-17. Visit www.finnseeker.com for details.

The halibut tournament will have three tagged halibut. One will be worth $1,000. A custom rod and a reel are the other two tagged prizes. There also will be daily jackpots and cash prizes.

Jude Aluce of Dana Point warmed up for the event by catching a 26.8-pound halibut off Dana Point last week. The fish could become a Dana Angling Club record for 12-pound test.
