I've been hunting public land pigs here in CA going on my 3rd year now. Many trips I wasted as had no clue how & where to hunt them. Certainly moved around too much and glassed to little. But this last year, I've found sign just about everywhere, even in places you'd think no way would a pig be there.
bout a month ago, I finally see an oinker across a steep ravine in a little open patch, 50x150 meters with awful brush surrounding it. So i drop my pack, roar down thru the brush, skip across a swollen stream walking on water jesus-style, race up the other side, and pick my way thru the brush as quietly and quickly as posible as I knew the pig was going to dissapear into the brush at any second. Rifle sling keeps getting hung up, so I pop it off on the run and toss it over a low branch.
Just as i belly out of the last of the brush, I see the top two inches of the oinker's back, right as it dissappears into the brush, only 20 meters away. Make a tough decision to back off as almost no way I could follow it into the brush and not get busted. so backed off and glass the opening the next 2 mornings and one more evening, but never saw it again. AND it stole my rifle sling as I never found it, even though I had GPS tracks of where I was. &*@^^(&*%!!!!
