Anybody hunted with Mike Baumgartner? I'm set to go out there the first of July. They have a ranch in Paicines, CA? Don't really know where that is! A friend hunted there last year and liked it. Prices are $500 for a trophy hog, $400 for a meat pig plus $75/night to stay at a private ranch house. Since I'm taking my girlfriend, I'll have to opt for the ranch house. Do those prices seem reasonable?

Guys,
Thanks for the replies.

Trees,
My girlfriend lives in Michigan and I really want her to go on this trip with me. Hopeing to get her interested in hunting before she moves back to CA. She is coming for a visit during the 4th of July holiday so that's the time I have to go hunting. Heike said that the hogs would be active early and late but that they will also have to come to water and I shouldn't have too much problem. Also the ground squirrels should be very active and I've a hankering to blast a bunch!

VHRAM, I hear ya on the money thing. I've been trying to do this for three years. Finally refinanced my house and saved a little for some hog hunting.

Thanks for the good replies.

Mike's got a good place to hunt. Paicines is just south of Hollister on Hy 25. That time of year, you should be able to locate good wallows where the hogs will frequent early and late.

DOn't be fooled, July may be hot, but it can be the best time of the year to hunt. As a guide now for the last 7 years I would say that May-July are the best hog hunting months, hands down. I've had days during this time when I've seen 100+ pigs.
