Hey everyone. I know it's been a while since I've showed my face around here. I've been lurking from time to time but family schedule has got the best of me lately. So I finally had a chance to get away on my own. A couple of months ago I registered myself for the DFG Turkey Hunting Clinic at Gray Lodge. A buddy from Sac was supposed to go but he flaked which sucked but it was still worth the drive. I ended up learning quite a bit. It was funny because it was definitely geared toward the newbies (that would be me) but I was surprised to see a few turkey hunting vets in the group. It was great to listen to their wisdom and their willingness to teach us. In any case, I just wanted to put a good word out here on Jesse's for the newbies to give those clinics a shot. It was only $45 and I felt it was worth it. If you have a buddy to teach you and take you out on hunts then that would be worth much more. For those with nobody to lean on, the clinics could help encourage you to go in the right direction.
Has anybody else gone to the clinics? If so, which ones did you go to and did you like them?
I also wanted to mention that Gray Lodge is a beautiful part of CA. The Sutter Buttes are spectacular. I wish I would have had more time to go hiking and check out the area. I started my morning at 3:30am and drove up north to get there BARELY on time for the class. After the class was over I had another 4.25 hour trip back home so I just drove around the other side of the buttes through the vineyards and farm land. It was a beautiful sunset to say the least. For those of you living up north, I am a little jealous. But I'm sure some of you would be jealous of my ocean views too. :roll-wink-green:
