I hear different accounts of Tule Elk rut activity.
Do the elk in the Owens Valley rut at a different time than the elk along the coastal range ?
When I shot mine at E. Park on september 18 there was alot of rut activity.
Others who have hunted the Owens Valley say it's over by september.
And I've heard various other reports.
What's your take on it ?

Thanks,
Breck

I do believe from reports I have received that the elk in the OV rut earlier and it may have to do with them being out of historic range and cooler climate. Slight variations from up and down the coast. The rut itself can actually last a long period of time, from pre-rut activitity, rut, peak rut, past peak rut, post rut. Slight variations from year to year depending on weather, etc. I am at a disadvantage because I never really get over to OV during the rut to get a look myself. Relying on past studies and reports.

I have been at Grizzly Island first of August and bulls have been bugling.
