Sancho, there are a couple of other threads on here asking the same question.

Final answer? There isn't one.

My experience has been mostly negative. The one exception was using a deer grunt call to try and draw a boar closer for a bow shot. It looked like he was curious, but we were close to a road and just as he looked like he was gonna come in, a truck came up.

Every other time I've seen or heard a hog call used, it either sent the hogs running the other direction or didn't seem to do anything at all.

One thing I have heard of that makes good sense is to use a soft grunt as you're working through the thick stuff. Seems kinda like using a cow call for elk when you get close... so they associate your noise with another elk (or hog) rather than a predator.

They really seemed to work on Catalina Island when we used to bow hunt. It would get them to stop and look around before disappearing into a thicket. I've tried them on Tejon and there was no reaction, good or bad. I actually had one come to me on the island. hronk

Don't know about calling in hogs, but I've heard that they work (somewhat) when still hunting for other game in areas where pigs are prevalent. I guess the premise is that if you make some loud noise in the brush and then make a few grunts you can "fool" game into thinking its a pig rather than a human....

I've never tried it though since most of my deer hunting in SoCal is in areas where there are few if any pigs.

I have one. Cant say that I have called unseen hogs with it but have stopped walking hogs with it. More of a curiosity stop than an "I'm interested" stop. I have not had hogs come towards the call although they say they are real social animals. But, I am still learning the calling game so part of the problem is surely me.

Anyhow, good luck with your quest...

I have one as well..I've never been in a situation where I had to use it..I guess if the conditions were right and you knew how to use the thing, might be worth a shot..

Yes. There is a Hog Call that works everytime. NO EXCEPTIONS. Simply cup your hands together and yell for all you are worth,

"ROSIE O'DONNELL....SUEY!"

It helps if you are in either Hollywood or Florida...

I have called pigs in twice on 2 differnt hunts by making a loud cuwing noise with my mouth like your eating like a pig. If you ever watch pigs feeding when one finds something jucie to eat it starts smacking it lips reel loud and the others come to see what that pig found thats so good to eat.

I believe it is illegal in CA to use an e-caller for pigs.

IMHO, never had any luck bringing adult pigs into the call, but I do get coyotes coming in to the squeels of young pigs in distress...
