hog_droppings.JPG

Usually when hunting my area I look to see how fresh the hog droppings and rooting are. I took and posted this pic on huntamerica.com but most people think it is deer crp. I know it is from a wild hog, what do you think?

Looks like a deer to me. Probably 136 to 138 lbs. Has a nice drop tine on the left side, 3 inch eyeguards, and walks with a slight limp on the front right. Basically a loner......issues from childhood I suppose.

All that aside, I'd still call it from a deer.

Hi Bishop, I see you know your hogs, and deer. Thanks for your reply.
This area is rich with grubs, salamanders, newts, acorns and all kinds of bugs. I think this is why most of their crp is this dark color. Hogs that go into grain fields create much lighter and more fibrous doo.

spectr17, Thanks for posting the picture. The dung in the center top looks very similar to the one in my photo... but the hog was obviously eating a different diet. There are no other pictures on the net from what I have seen.

Rancho Loco! You are local! You had to have seen these in a hog infested area. If you need any help hunting.. Let me know! :)

Hey Bolt, it's nice to see ya in this forum. Welcome. Those looks hog crap to me although there are some deer crap that look similar to that especially in the spring when their antlers are growing. They eat different diet and their crap look similar to what you posted. Although the deer crap would come a little lighter in color like greenish brown during this time of the year.

Ok Gents... I decided to walk the land for about an hr for a hunt. I found another big dropping. I took three pictures. It may have been a big boar that left this package, but truely hog. It smells like a big old boar. This is not from a deer. If it is, than I'de be hearing the buck screaming while pushing this monster out.

This dropping looks to be a couple days old. What do you think?

Hi Toothy! Wondering where you were. Hope all is good. Hunting has been slow here. Never where ever you go though! Have a great one... hope to hear about some of your recent hunts!

Bolt....no hunting for me since Archery A-zone deer season is a month away. Are you still fishing Hat Creek and the Feather River Channel? When is the next trip?

If that looks like a brownie to you I don't want to eat at your house.

Yes I do. The Hunting has been good. did'nt see much yesterday in the way of hogs. I did see some nice bucks. 2 good forked, and one huge 5x6 that had more mass than I have seen in some time. I jumped a big 4x4 this afternoon in the canyon behind the house this afternoon. should be a good deer season.
