My father and I drew a 6a bull permit for the general rifle hunt in November. Any information that can be passed along would be greatly appreciated. Hey Jesse, are you ready to go!!

Huntinut,

That is a great unit. It has a lot of elk. Are you from AZ, or are you familiar with AZ ?

I have taken 2 elk from that unit. You need to scout alot because it is a big area. In November (depending on the weather) the elk should be in the middle to lower elevations in that unit. Try aroud "Apache Maid" & "Stoneman Lake"

My dad and I drew it a couple of years ago and did real good. I just need to keep from slapping the trigger to soon.We spent all of our time in the southern portion of the zone and around Apache Maid. Do the elk in that unit usually follow the same areas from year to year. Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

Congrats on your 6A Bull Tag draw!! I was not drawn for that area for the first time inmany years. I Archery hunt that unit almost every year. Presently the forest is CLOSED , due to high fire danger and lack of rainfall. This could be good or bad for you. If they don't get boatloads of rain soon there may not be any hunting in the National Forest areas. But this could also be a blessing , if the early hunts are cancelled , and they get rain , you guys may be the first ones in to hunt. I would agree with Jim that anywhere around Apache Maid is good for rifle. Other areas are Buck Mtn. the area below Happy Jack ranger station on the 305 rd., Buck Butte , Horse Tank , Pine Ridge , yada yada yada.. If I can be of any help to ya e-mail me at widgnwhacker@aol.com , we have harvested many nice animals from that unit. Good luck to you and your dad,

WW

There is a guy, Duwane Adams that will provide a map type service where he indicates specific roads, ridges etc.... and writes specific spots to find animals.  All his information is from him/his guides that hunt the areas extensively.  I used his service last year, it is very reasonable, 250.00 and isnt a bogus scam.  If you dont have the time to scout extensively, this really hedges your bet.  He is very credible, been guiding for around 25 years and was just wrote up in last months Rocky Mountain Game & fish magazine about "Two Arizona Bulls"  you might want to holler at him.   520-385-4995  or check out his website www.arizonabiggamehunting.com

0 for 5, Didn't even get a turkey tag, No elk, deer, lope or sheep. Got plenty of bonus points though. Thank god for over the counter deer bow tags.

Now I know who keeps pulling my 6A elk tag. Who you butt kissing in AZ Andy?
