DRURY-MINCY, WILDLIFE AREA

If you are familiar with the Drury-Mincy wildlife area in Taney Co.
you know that it's always been a managed deer hunt. This year hunters
can bow hunt the area without being drawn out! Yes come Oct.1
hunters can hunt deer and turkeys just like they were on public land.
I called MDC today just to make sure and it's ture. To my knowledge
this is the first time ever!
I've hunted the place several times and it's always been good. The
year before last I missed a dandy 10pt. with a muzzleloader (IT DIDN'T
FIRE) and I'm still sick about it...

I wondered if the place was ever open to bowhunters. I hunted it about 30 years ago and don't remember a thing about it (dumb membrain again)

A friend of mine said he got drawn for the ML season the end of October and would like me to go with him and BowHunt while he's inside. I assume it'll be closed for bowhunters who are not drawn but is there a public place to bowhunt there outside the place?

Tinhorn.
Drury-Mincy is made up of two different areas. The Drury
side (I think the best) was open to bow hunters for
turkeys only last year. The Mincy side is open for bow
hunters during the regular season but closed for the
managed hunt.
In the early 70's I got my first bow kill on the Drury
side. It was a draw hunt for archery and muzzleloaders.
I'm not sure when they went to the muzzleloader only
hunts. Drury is a wildlife area and the deer are not as
spooky. I'm not saying that their easy to kill but they
don't get the hunting pressure like the Mincy deer do.
As far as I know there is no place real close for you to hunt
while your buddy is muzzleloading.
One more thing... The agent in charge of Drury-Mincy is
Jerry Adam you won't meet a nicer person.
