Dual Purpose Round for Hogs & Javi's

Edible size hogs and Javelina, that is. I already have a CZ 527 (7.62x39). I assume that would work (123 or 125 gr. for Javelina & 154 gr. for pigs.)

I'd like to have a 2nd choice in a lever-action though. What would you choose?

+1 on the 30-30. The 357 would also work in a lever action but remember lever actions come in other calibers too not just the most common.

Solus & Friend - Wouldn't a 30-30 be a bit much on 30-40 lb. Javelina at close range?

no youll be just fine. Ive seen them shot using a 30-06

I shoot a marlin guide gun for a lever in 444, I use it for bear and pigs in the brushy areas and a 6.5 rem. mag in the t/c encore for long shots on all sorts of game.

I never shot a javelina. They look small and a 30.06 might hollow one out. I would stick with your. 762 or maybe a. 243 or. 270. I cannot say, since I never did it. My 30.06 is a monster on deer. I could only guess.

I can only afford one! I want a lever.

I'm thinking maybe a Mossberg 464 in 30-30, or perhaps a Rossi in 44M.

Buy a Marlin big bore in 45/70! the larger round will still kill the smaller animal. If you've ever tasted Javelina you won't mind wasting a little meat.

I am really unimpressed by the Mossberg and the new Remlins aren't much better. I would look at an older Marlin (say, no later than mid-80's) or a Browning or Winchester. The quality of the Rossi is so variable that I wouldn't want to own one. A big heavy bullet will do far less damage at those velocities than you might think--it will just plow right on through them.
