I watched a bald eagle land in this tree and thought it would make a great picture. Unfortunately, I only have a 18 - 55mm lens so even though it was only about 60 yards away, the eagle didn't really show up. None the less, I thought the picture was great and thought I'd share.

Enjoy,
Louie

Nice picture. Cant really make out the eagle though. Until you get that extra 200mm of focal length, shots like this are frustrating. The more you crop the grainer they get. I have the 18-55 too because it came on the camera and I've used it successfully for some landscape shots and group pics. The wildlife gets much easier with the higher quality lens though.

Thanks tpetty,

I'm working on getting a zoom. Here's the eagle. I had to really blow it up so it doesn't look that great but oh well.

I think the photo of the tree looks nice also.. Makes me think of tree-beard from Lord of the Rings.. Its cool that you have eagles though. That will give you something to look forward to for when you do get some big glass on the end. good pic thanks for sharing it

Even with a 400mm length I get frustrated at times without enough reach. That 500 f/4 would suit me real well!

Nice catch Louie, now you have to practice your sneak.

Don't need a long lens if you get close to the eagle

Sorry llong, wasn't trying to rubb it in, just wanted to show what can be done using a fixed lens sony p41 in a game camera setup.

We have lots of eagles in our area that I photograph with an Olympus 740, but even with 10x zoom I couldn't get good closeup pictures, so tried a different approach.

Can't wait to get the Nikon D100 set in a case for closeups.
