Will I have any problems caused by the rain if I go out hunting tomorrow. I wouldn't worry about it if I was taking a rifle but will the rain affect my rifled barrel 12 Gage? Will the ammo fire?

If you ain't got a run-in with ammo mis-fire or short-fire, you ain't been huntin enough in rain condition. Several times I had it where I pulled the trigger, heard the hammer clicked, thought I got no round in the chamber, then BANG! it goes off. And this was with my 06 during the El Nino storm.

There are a variety of problems that can lead to a misfire. Rain will not cause a misfire! When the powder gets wet it will cause a misfire. If you keep your ammo dry it will fire. rain can also lead to a jam in the gun if it carries particles into the gun. The chances of getting enough moisture in the chamber with a round to soak the powder/primer are very low. Misfires happen in any conditions. When rain is a real problem is when it freezes but we rarely have that condition anywhere in CA! I am not a gunsmith but I did stay at a Holiday inn express last night.

Well I didn't go out yesterday in the rain because my leg hurt from work the day before and I didn't feel like hiking. But I did go out today in the mud and hiked. I saw a pig about 70 yds from where I was hiking. I took a shot just as it steped behind a bush. I couldn't tell if I hit it or not so I ran toward it and I see it at about 40 yds looking straight at me. I put the crosshairs rite between the eyes and pull the trigger. It drops like a tun of bricks. Bullet went in under it's ear and passed through to the engine room. I fill out my tag, gut it and start dragging. 1000 yds or so mostly uphill. 200# or so sow.

So my conclusion Is that the sabots are not affected by clear skies.:smiley_doh:

We will see if this works.

Maybe I'm wrong about the size I don't really know how to judge. But it felt like 500# when I was dragging it.

A little clear nail polish around the case neck where the bullet seats and a drop on the primer can help. I also put a piece of electrical tape over the end of the barrel. The tape is an old military trick. Works like a charm and you do not have to remove it before you shoot. It keeps rain and dirt out of the barrel.

A guy would have to be one hell of a hunter to go up against Live2Hunt and come out on top. He has "turbo 4 paw drive", he shoots straight and can cut up a hog and have it in the ice chest before most guys can open their beer.
