Elk causes blackout

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -- An elk smashed into a pole Monday, causing more than 1,600 homes from Waldport to Alsea to lose power.
A spokesman from Consumers Power Inc. said damage from the impact also tripped a breaker at a Toledo substation.
A customer reported seeing the elk sprint into a pole and a wire, and continue to run.
Power was restored just after 7 p.m.
