I've got NM, OR, CO, NV and CA left to go. I'll definately be doing CO this year (rifle) and it's a toss up between archery Oregon OTC tag & archery NM--I don't expect to draw in CA, NV. And I know I won't draw in OR because I cannot draw my archery hunt there with only 3 points.

I'm not sure if I'll be jumping into the AZ point game or not this year--I'd sure hate to get up to 6 or 8 points and be priced out of the hunt by a $3,200 elk tag price. And $100/yr for the license to end up hunting a cow sure seems a bit pricey too...but, I'd sure love to hunt northern AZ.

$3200.00? Not going to happen!!! They may want to make you think it will, but not that high........Most likely they'll match there neighbors in NM at $775.00 or so.........That's what cracks me up also! Georgie never jumped up and down about that!!! Must be cause he gets all those 'outfitter' tags.....The things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

Neither one of us can say for sure what'll happen with AZ tag prices with the ceiling lifted to those high levels....yeah, it's likely they won't go much higher than Nevada @ over $1,000. But, with NV's budget crisis, you can bet one of Arizona's neighbor's will be reaching the $2,000 tag price real soon (NV)--they'd probably follow suit.

There's a lot of units in OR I'd to hunt and it seems to change from year to year....I wouldn't mind drawing a Weneha archery tag--just don't know if I"ll be willing to wait that long.

If I bag a nice Rocky Mt. bull, I might want to chase after Rosies--fewer yellow jackets and bald faced hornets over there. I've never seen so many wasps, yellow jackets and such compared to Eastern Oregon....lol....man, they're all over the starkey, and northside units.

The whip antenna had hit a nest in the tree..........Mom -n- dad couldn't figure out why my sister and I were screaming and flailing around in the back-seat!!!

I'm in for the Oregon 200M2 Elk muzzleloader hunt with 1 cool point from last year. Hope to see that "Successful" yellow card in the mail around the third week of June and get some time back home in November.
Yellow jackets and bald hornets......

had more than a few experiences with them growing up in the mountains of So. Oregon way back when. Anyone ever assemble Mason jar traps for 'em?

Good luck to all on your draws,
Sako

I find an avg of 2 nests and acre for yellowjackets on the 25 acres we rent on . About a 1/3 as many baldface nests. There is a small window of time in Oct when the freezing weather starts, the rain/snow hasn't, and the days are warm still. That's when the yellowjackets are horrendus on the east side. But other than that, they are as bad or worse on the west side unitl the rains really hit

I've seen some dressed deer that were left uncovered that the hornets just ripped to pieces.

For trappin. I've tried just about everything. glass jars, bcuket traps, yellowplastic ones with scent bait, flypaper. Had fun last year with a aluminum basting pan, a piece of chicken liver a stcik and a string. Tie the liver on the string to the stick and hang just over the pan. Fill pan with soapy water. They come in and feed, get to heavy, and land in the water when they try and fly off.

When I find their nests and its safe to do so, the hole gets a few ounces of gas and a match. Done at night they're all gone in the morning
