The Saint Louis Zoo, in partnership with MDC, The Nature Conservancy and USFWS, is releasing about 150 pairs of American burying beetles at Wah-Kon-Tah Prairie.
EL DORADO SPRINGS, Mo. -- Insects are unique to start with. But the American burying beetles take evolutionary traits a step further. This federally endangered beetle feeds and cares for its young, unlike most insects, and the bug parents possess some unique skills when it comes to turning dead animals into dinner.
