Good day to you all, I must start by saying that I truely love this site. It is so informative!! My question is what is your caliber of choice for Javelina hunting? .223, .243, .25-06, or something else? I am in the market for a new rifle and I'm leaning towards the new Savage w/the accutrigger in .243, but I;m curious as to other people's choices. Thanks!!
Any caliber you have will work but I have a large choice:243,30-06,45 long colt,454 casull in rifles.Check and see what's legal in the state you're hunting in.One of my fellow wildlife mgt students at the Univ of AZ used to use his 243 on woofers(javelina) with success. When I was in college we were instructed to advise javelina hunters to carry 2 sets of rubber gloves and 2 knives. After killing the pig use 1 set of gloves and a knife to remove the musk gland then put them aside and store them in a heavy plastic bag, next don the other set of gloves using your other knife to gut the pig away from the area where you removed the musk gland so as not to taint the flesh.
