I've been feeling pretty depressed about living on Oahu the past few months especially when hear stories from my buddies back on Maui telling me about all their hunting success, man I miss living on Maui. Also everything in this old house keeps reminding me of my parents who both passed away just a few months earlier, some happy memories but miss them a whole lot. Anyways I get home from work a few weeks ago to find a message from a friend on East-coast telling me to call back ASAP, I was assuming a family emergency and getting worried when I called. It was not an emergency at all but instead it was notification that I had been chosen for an ALL expense paid trip to San Antonio, Texas to participate in a exotic game ranch hunt for 4 days 3 nights. I thought he was kidding but he wouldn't kid, and in a conference call later that evening with hunt sponsors and judges it was verified, and the next day I got my airline e-ticket. I leave this Saturday afternoon and arrive Sunday morning with the actual hunting starting Monday morning. Never been to Texas so this will be quite an experience. Will be hunting Fallow Deer, Axis Deer, Black Buck, Pigs, several varieties of goats and sheep. The hunt will be video taped. Please wish me luck, and would appreciate any advice on hunting Texas you all can provide. Mahalo a nui loa, Uncle Ji

Uncle Ji,

Only thing I can say is you will have a blast hunting Texas. One advice I can give is prepare for all type of weather. Mornings can be really cold. Sounds like a fun hunt. Definitely report back once you complete your hunt. Good luck.

P.S. Which outfitter/ranch are you going with?

Don't have a name yet but it's located midway between Hondo and Uvalde wherever that is. It's one of several ranches a friend manages, he knew I could never afford such a hunt so he and several others got together and surprised me, one friend even donating his airline miles for my trip. Friends like these are so hard to find. Can't wait to go, but can't wait to get back and post pictures.

Good luck, Uncle Ji!! After all you've been through, you've earned this hunt. How is your back doing? Are you able to hike at all? If so, let me know and we can set up some sort of hunt here on the Big Island.

Have a great time in Texas. Looking forward to the story and the photos.

Aloha for now.

I wish you all the luck, enjoy and be safe. Texas a great place to hunt, but make sure to pack for weather like Shot advised. It changes quickly with little warning. Update us when you can.

Good Hunting
