Does anybody know if there is any exotic deer, like fallow or axis, that are available to be hunted in California? The blacktail deer hunts all seem to be booked out and public land just isn't my thing. Thanks for the help.

I don't know if they are on a huntable land or in the park, but I have seen huge herds north of point arena on hwy 1.

JustAl,
There are a ton of info on exotic hunting in Calif. from the previous threads in this "Exotic Deer in Calif." section. Just peruse the previous threads & the private ranches catering to exotic hunting & info are all laid out. Good Luck & God Bless. larrysogla.

Could you be more specific? I just did a search on exotic deer in CA and it came up empty. I didn't think there were any except up at Hurst Castle since it is now illegle to import them.

boarhunter67,
Sorry, my mistake!!! I was referring to Cedar Canyon Ranch in Tehachapi & Big Horn Canyon Ranch in Riverside. Both private pay-to-hunt ranches only offer wild boar, exotic goat & exotic sheep & bison hunts. NO exotic deer. Sorry my fault. God Bless. larrysogla.

I haven't researched too far into it for California, but I know many state wildlife management/dept. of agriculture agencies only allow certain species of exotic deer or none at all. It is common for states to allow fallow deer, but not axis, sika, rusa, red, etc. Antelope, exotic cattle, sheep, goats and pigs are the most commonly allowed species. A state like TX is the most liberal and offers nearly every species on the planet.

Just best to check with the department of wildlife for the short and direct answer.
