Just thought I'd jump in here and post one of my shots of a captive Kestral. I'm hoping it will be returned back to the wild in the next week or two.

Thanks for looking,
Old Jim

great looking photos Old Jim.
I'm not familiar with bird rehab, what is the strap around the feet for?

Great photos, these are among the most colorful of the raptors, the male has even more markings than the female.

Thanks again all for the replies. Not only are they a colorful predator but they are very quick. They do not stay in one location very long so photographing them is a challenge.

Lan-Lord, we have a Wild Bird Sanctuary here in the Desert where people bring in sick or injured wild birds. The idea is to rehabilitate them back into the wild. This Kestrel has leather straps on its legs to keep it from flying away while its volunteer keeper takes it out of its enclosure. The straps are about 15' long allowing the bird to have a little flight while it strengthens it wings. The keeper would not allow me around the bird while it was flying in order to minimize it's contact with humans. I was allowed to get behind a blind to get these shots. My payment for this short adventure was copies of my photos as these are the only photos of the bird.

Thanks again for looking.
