I got lucky and drew a military Archery either sex Elk tag on FHL. I responded to the post on this forum and put a post in the bowhunting forum. Thanks for the help so far. I'm sure FHL will provide info, but I can't wait to learn more about it. I have never hunted FHL before and wanted to know what to expect.. I am stationed in Virginia now and can't scout before, or get familiar with FHL. Also with Tule elk can I use cow calls and bugles made for Rocky mt elk? the hunt is in the rut (sep 2). Any thoughts?

Congrats in drawing the FHL elk tag. The elk area very area sensitive and move away from human pressure onto the unhuntable impact zones, they are very smart. The help from the game shack will be very good but limited, they are very helpful but not hunters. You need to bring all your bags of tricks for elk. They do come to a cow call, but are very wary. You will see lots of big bulls right along the road in the out of limits areas, sitting with the big boars. There are some on JHO who have taken some nice bulls and hopefully will respond to your post. Do a back search for info on this topic and you will get some great info.

Long story made short I got my bull on the last day I was going to be hunting! I am extremely happy with him.

That is a fine animal. I will look for a story in the bow section.

Great job.
