My best tip - BE QUIET. It's not just so the animals don't hear you. It's so that you can hear THEM.

I've spotted more animals because I heard them first than I ever have glasssing. I'm not saying glassing isn't important, i'm just saying for me at least listening has been more beneficial.

Tequlia and flowers for the wife, tequlia to knock her out and flowers for when she wakes up and i've "gone hunting" Check.
be very quiet so "live 2 hunt" does not hear me put a gps on the Tacoma, Check.
Follow Tacoma till dusk and get a shot at sloppy seconds. Check.
great advice, this should be a slam dunk. anything else ?

Make sure you take everything you need, including food and fuel, as there isn't anything for 40 miles.

There is a gas station there, but you don't want to pull up on vapor the day the pumps aren't working. The bowling alley may or may not be open at night, and their food isn't the best or cheapest.

True, but Lockwood store is super expensive. King City is 20+ miles distance-wise, but its a 40+ minute drive each way because it's not all freeway. With only 2 days to hunt its a lot of daylight and fuel to burn.

I can be in King City in 20 mins from FHL gate doing the speed limit. I go down there to get supplies and to eat sometimes, it's not that far out of the way. 20 miles one way.

Gas station on base with plenty of gas. Just bring your credit card to pay at pump. Plus if coming from south and you fill up in Paso Robles, you should have enough to go around for two days and get back to Paso Robles. For food if you don't bring enough, Px have plenty of snacks, junk food, cold sandwich, frozen burritos, and sodas.

To save money on food, bring your shotgun. Plenty of jackrabbits to shoot and roast over campfire in camp if you are up for it.

Im going to be in the field from dawn to dusk. plenty of gas and food. heres the question. do I drive the roads looking for pig, walk the grounds looking for signs. find a shady tree to sit under like turkey hunting. or even set up a blind somewhere ?
see the problem is that im just guessing what to do. I am willing to trade largemouth bass fishing secrets for pig hunting tips.

As I believe most on here would say, get high and glass. The pigs at FHL are constantly moving and where you see sign one day you might not the next. I have learned a ton from reading past posts on FHL here and it just takes time and being in the right spot at the right time. Use the wind and listen! They can be rather noisy and you can hear them. As far as TA's go, everybody I think has their favorite IMHO. But it became their favorite for the time they put into it. It also is relegated to what TA's are open as well. Good Luck! I am headed down the following weekend and hope to put some in my freezer!

Last/first time I was there I went into TA-7 for the sunday evening final look, but we just drove the roads. If it's open I want to go in and walk it. It looked like a real good area. The only reason I went in there was because of a tip I received on this site so, thank you for that. you know who you are . Bottomline is Im going hunting and that I think is the best way to gain experence , A clean harvest will be iceing on the cake im stuffing my face with. thanks for the tips everyone.
keep em rollin in. Im sponging everything I can right now. 3 days to go

one day left, leaving tomorrow night got my 150 grain gmx, and a backpack full of snacks. I have a pretty straight forward plan of operation but could always use more ammo on the "how to". I seem to be spending more time thinking about what to do as I get closer to the day. I have so much to think about I can't keep it straight.. I think I will just let it go, relax and enjoy my time in the field..yep..feeling better already.

Question about FHL. Never been there but if I read the regulations right I can show up tomorrow at 3:00 and purchase a yearly pass for $120, camp in the campground for $10 a night and I'm good to go pig hunting Saturday morning?
