Well I went. Here it is .Last weekend they got 7 hogs. This weekend they got 4.Unless they brought more in late today?I went in 15 first someone ususally gets 1 there. Then I went in 9 the rest of the time.Did'nt see any fresh sign either places.I know they got a few out of 29.But don't know where any other's came from. All resorvoirs have duck hunters with lots of shooting. Also lots of quail hunters with lots of shooting.Very very cold.Ileft a gallon of water out & it froze. Also raccoons got in My ice chest & stold all My food saturday night.I've never had that happen there before. It was kinda funny but still I got hungry today. But the hacienda was open so I ate a burger. This was cindy's last weekend working. To those of you who know who I'm talking about. There was maybe 60 - 70 hunters. Most of them we're bird hunting.Someone lost they're britany in area 24.So if you find it?If you're going pig hunting?Maybe wanna wait till bird season ends.Cause there is (ALOT) of shooting. As for Me I gave up hogs.Grabbed shotgun went for a walk.Snuck up on a covey.About 40 yards away I shot.Had four on the ground 1 flew I got it.High base shells work pretty good from a distance lol.So anyways there it is.No pigs just birds for Me

Wavesfr, thanks for the update.  I am moving into a house next weekend, and would like to get out there the first of February.

Sounds like a blast.  Did you see many cottontail rabbits?

wavesfr  We must have passed each other. We started out in 15 as well. Saw no pig sign. We ended up with quail also. My friend Ken got a coyote. We saw lots of coyotes, bobcats, deer, elk quail, rabbits, ducks. Today we started out in 6 and saw no pig sign. We went to 24 and found some sign but no pigs. Saw a nice Bald Eagle though. You were right, it was very cold.                      Fubar

Mt Goat  The store is closed. The campground is open. The campground has a self serve envelope you put your money in and deposit there.

Make sure, if you go, you have your hunting permit ahead of time. They can only be obtained by mail. They dont sell anything at the registration window. Make sure you have all licenses and tags also.

When you get to the guard shack you will be asked for your drivers license, registration, and proof of insurance.
Your vehicle is also subject to search and you will be asked to show that all of your guns are not loaded.

Mt Goat I am not sure. I did see a lot of people coming on the base that were not hunting. They were having services at the Mission on Sunday also.
I would say they are but I could not say for sure.                    Fubar

I don't know why they are considering closing the fort for hunting if the camp ground closes. Arn't there two hotels on the base. I'd stay there. FHL has one of the best public quail hunting spots in CA.

Yes the back gates are opened. You still have to show them. Everything before you can even pass through..Hey qbn. When did you hear they we're going to close. There's been rumors around there for years. I was just curious what the latest was. Also they have a new person. Running the enviromental dept. I guess they got rid of that one gal. You know the that started all that crap. Like the campground. Thanks wavesfr

When I called the biologist about some information on my Elk hunt (before it was cancelled), he told me there was a good chance that FHL might be closed to hunting soon if we did not let our congressman know we were opposed to closing hunting on FHL if and when FHL is transferred over the the National Park Service (NPS).  Some of then base surplus buildings have already been transferred over to NPS.  There is currently a bill in congress about a feasbility study in closing down FHL and tiurning it over to NPS.  I mentioned this back in Sep/Oct but no one showed any concern.  I guess I might have been the only one to write my congressman conrning this matter.  I'll look up the bill number again so you can read it.

Hey bubba.I called Mine (Bill thomas) When they closed the campground. They then called Me back & said I have to call the congressmen for that district. Which I did but he was busy. He was supposed to call Me back. Which He did not so I called back a few times. Explaining to his secretary that this was not right. Then I done some checking. I found out that He is a liberal. With ties to the sierra club. So no wonder He did'nt call back huh ?. I love to hunt fhl. Sometimes I'm there twice a month. It's even a 3 hour drive for Me. So whatever I can ever do I will do it. Thanks wavesfr

The bill is HR2278.  It was opened in 1999, so they might be close to finishing their study.  I never did get a resposne.   I believe Sam Farr is the representative behind all of this.  He was the one that shut down the Navy bombing runs recently.  I was trying to get more info from NPS but their website is shutdown because of all the mess the Dept. of Interior is in right now.  I will keep trying.
