I finally found the registration for my wife's Cherokee late Friday night, and arrived at FHL for the 6:00 AM check in I hate slug guns, so I picked TA-19 thinking that I would sneak up on Generals Reservoir. Well, I never got there. The road to 19 is blocked by large fallen trees at both ends, and Bull Rock Road was the only way in. When I ford the Naci on Los Bueyese Road I was pushing water with my head lights, and a little splashing up on the hood The water went through the radiator making plenty of steam, and the "Check Engine" light came on. But, I made it to the fallen tree and back out again. When I approached the Naci from the Bull Rock Road side (in the middle of 19) I chickened-out. For the evening hunt, I have a hill across from Hughes Res on the 19 side where I can stakeout the small creek below, plus all of the surrounding meadow area. Nothing came out, but I can remember taking a pig at 300 yards with my 30-06 at that spot.

Starting to see more hunters on Saturday now.

Yeah, i'd imagine it would be tough to get on the general's side of 19 from both directions just from the rivers flowing. But the 19/20 split road that goes near the river, with the flats there in 19, is probably the best part for pigs in 19. Especially along that creek you're talking about. Got a shot off at a pig there a couple years ago.

Maybe the 19/23 road also would be good with the low oak tree's. Glad you made it out of there though. I've heard soem good stories of jeeps/trucks taking a good bath trying to cross puddles and the rivers there.

last weekend there was a road blocked off by gravel pit due to the going over the road. might invest in a swamp buggy

Cali,

Basically, when I approach one of those mud holes on a dirt road I get it going before I enter it. (always in Four Wheel Low) and then I keep it going. The river crossings I do very slowly. I got my differential housing caught between two big rocks once. It's best to keep all four wheels on the river bottom. This trip gave me a chance to try out my high tech range finder. I remember exactly where that pig was when I shot it years ago, so I did a laser check on a near by tree trunk. It was 275 yards. I remember laying across the hood of my CJ5 when I made that shot. During the mornings I follow that little creek from the road right up to the base of the dam, and I have shot a couple of them in there also. I only stakeout the hill top during evenings, and there must be a hundred good places like that at Liggett. From up there I can see who drives up the cut into the impact area. Surprising how many guys risk being blown up.

Definately Map. There are a lot of good area's at FHL. It's why I like hunting it so much. Get to do some off roading, get to hunt/hike in beautiful country, and hang with good friends. Hope to head back up that way in 2-3 weeks. Just been busy on the weekends coaching.

I coach volleyball. I have a girls club team I coach and a JV boys team at a high school in Santa Maria. It's a lot of fun. Just that the club team takes up the weekend sometiems with practice and tournaments. But I really enjoy it.

Cali & hntboar,

When the kids go off to college we can't coach anymore, but the tailgate parties before the Spartan football games are a blast. I installed an awning on my camper for the events. Then, there are the Spartan football games on far away tropical islands like O'ahu. We had a pre-game party on Friday night at the Tiki Bar & Grill at Waikiki, and then Aloha Stadium was completely surounded with tailgaters on Saturday before the game. The Spartans won that one.
