I'm heading to FHL this Saturday. I work for Avis rent-a-car so I don't know what 4 wheeler I will end up driving, but I will be wearing a green "Promise Keepers" hat. I hope to say Hi to fellow JHO enthusiasts and meet some of you great fellows. I have been going to FHL since 1989, but never even seen a pig. Still it is a beautiful place and there are pigs in there, just very pressured and hiding. Six months ago my fellow worker bagged two nice pigs in one day at FHL. That was lucky. Maybe some of it will rub off on me. His family has eagle eyes. They harvest several bucks every year at FHL. If any of you JHO fellows see me, just say Hi. I would appreciate it. Good luck and God Bless.

I have never hunted FHL myself but wish you best of luck and a safe time.

superduty & hoghunter714,
Thanks guys. Even with no hogs, I would still enjoy the respite from the hustle & bustle of L.A.
God Bless, larrysogla

Well, no pigs but sure had a lovely time at FHL this Sat. Picked up the Avis car at 11:30 PM. Came home at 12 midnight. Was so dead tired from work I decided to take a 1 hr. nap. It was 5AM!!! when I woke up. Loaded up & got going at 7AM. Got to FHL at 11:30. One guy from Sta. Clarita? already got 2 pigs(45 lbs. & 55 lbs.) & was getting ready to put the meat in ice. I knew the pigs in FHL stay put during the heat of the day. So I had time to kill before going out for pigs at 5PM. Went to the beach(16 mi. approx.) thru the Nacimiento-Ferguson gate of FHL. Spectacular view from that road coming down the mountains to the beach at PCH 1. After recharging my precious batteries with the fresh sea breeze, came back to FHL & saw a herd of 65 elk(counted them) with bulls(nice antlers), cows & calves at TA12A. Did some fishing at Del Venturi reservoir(the guy at the permit office told me the bass were big in there). No catch. Finally headed out for pigs at 4:30PM. No pigs again. Came back to L.A. same night, dog tired but inwardly refreshed. Next time I will make it a 2 day effort(Sat. & Sun.) & maybe get my 1st time pig at FHL. My wife passed the Hunter Safety Course last Feb., so she & my daughter can join me at FHL. The great outdoors is a welcome break even without the hog in the ice. Cheers!!! God Bless. larrysogla

Sounds like you had a successful hunt, regardless of the harvest. Congrats!

It's always nice to get out an enjoy the outdoors. Especially from the hilltops of FHL. Sorry you didn't get anything. I always hear that if you have Archerey eqip. or a shotgun that you should go into 29/30 and get real high on the hill. They say in the early hours you can actually watch the other hunters in the unit, who are down low, chasing the pigs around without knowing it. You might try that. That's what the old man at the check station said.

Cheers

A friendly reminder fellows, at the T-intersection of Nacimiento-Ferguson rd. &
PCH 1, the DFG put a sign that says "....due to the endangered sea otter, firearms are prohibited on the west side of PCH 1." This is as we all know, the beach side of PCH 1. This is easy to miss as you are scanning cross traffic to make a turn into PCH 1. So I drove 2-3 miles north, parked on the east side of PCH 1 in a safe spot & walked across the highway to the lookout point. I sucked in the scenery & sea breeze without the risk of being cited just by being on the wrong side of PCH 1.
Leechul, I was on a hilltop on TA 29 with my shotgun & had a full 360 view. Just no pigs that day, but I won't quit. Quitters never win & winners never quit!!!
God Bless. larrysogla

How's it going larrysogla? I was there this weekend also. My partners took a pretty
small pig, but at least he got one. You should really try TA 29. I bagged a 140 lb sow about a month ago. I missed on two others in the same day!! It's shotgun only, and you have to walk in, but you have a much better chance of bagging a pig there.

You're right, sorry I left that out. They allow shotguns, muzzle loaders, and
archery in TA 29. Anybody going out for rabbits this weekend?? Lost count after I
saw about 15 this weekend in TA 29.
