On the towing in the nasty mud at Fort Hunter Liggett, I talked to Mike Jardine this morning, he's almost got his rig ready, should be done in a week he said. $200 a yank he said. Anybody that hunts FHL, you need this number in your phone, Mike Jardine, 805-610-6119. He's a cash only deal so carry that or expect a trip to the magic ATM money machine. I know this cuz, well, um, the sun was in my eyes and the hog was so big and the roads changed direction and um,,,,,,. I'm going to go by Fire Dept to see what they say on tow outs, I begged them 5 years ago and they said no way because of liability. Miller's Towing out of King City was on the fort this weekend offroad doing tows, they got stuck in 10. Not sure what they are charging for members of AAA or non members. Anyone know?
FYI, carry a long handled shovel to dig with, Winch if you have it with snatch block or come along, long tow strap. Mudder tires help but the bigger heavier trucks tend to sink fast up here. Think light like Jeep or small SUV if you have it available. Chains will help you keep traction in the mud. Stay off the hills when it's raining. A little sun and wind and the roads dry up pretty quick so you can park and hike on and come back later in the day and go deeper if the rain stops.
