For the weekend of February 9 and 10, areas 5, 9, 25, 27, and 29 are open. Area 29 is walk in only and is shotgun, archery and muzzleloader only.
You could find pigs in any of these areas.           Fubar

Drove through yesterday. Just a sunday drive over to highway 1 and up back home(Had the wife along). 11 a.m. and what do I see right at the edge of the resorvoir on your left as your leaving going west, 3 hogs way out on the other side. I only had a crappy pair of optics and could not see that well. I drove through the hunting parking lot and there were not a lot of campers,or did not seem to be anyways. I was very surprise at how dead the whole base was. Would have been a perfect weekend to be there for the duration though.

I had a feeling, its kinda like steelhead fishing,
it seems like I can almost smell the fish and I just know that they are there. I had that same gut feeling while working out at the ranch, I kept raising up looking into the cool breeze and thinking I bet the hogs are on the move.

bohunter. T/A 3 is archery only never been in there before. I've been next to it in 7. I've heard there are pigs in 3 also. In the back it borders private property. I've hunt fhl alot but only talked to people about 3 a fews times. Area's 29 & 30 are shotgun muzzleloader & shotgun only. You can use you're bow anywhere on the base though. I seen a guy arrow a hog in 29 one time. Like everyone else here will tell you. It all depends on what areas are open. Also nobody knows for sure where the pigs are. They move all the time. I Myself would be using My rifle for pigs. It's starting to get warm now so I would watch the water holes. They will give you a map when you get there. You can look on it to find them. If you just want to see some. Go past the entrance to fhl north up jolon rd. To the end of T/A 30 wich is the old  T/A 13. You will see no hunting signs. Just past that there is a big open field. On you're right side bye the way. Stop & look out in that field with you're bino's. It is a restricted area (NO HUNTING) so don't climb the fence lol. Those big black things are'nt rocks. They're out there almost everytime I go. Even in the middle of the day. They know they're safe. Have fun

Is it difficult to tell the different areas apart?  If you're assigned one area, is it easy to walk across to another area without knowing it?  How about walking out of FHL and onto private land?

Thanks,
Kick

What wavesfr said. You just have to go afew times and pretty soon you will have your own secret spots. when those hogs get pressure from rifle hunters  that that rip the sky open with thunder they move out. With bows if you can find some, you can keep going back and they will still be around.
