Hi Folks,
I just ran some calculations and came up with the following facts about Lake Sonoma's 2012/13 hog hunts:
Based on our 2010 visitation and economic impacts within the community, each park visitor represents $23.46 in local spending within 30 miles of the park for things like gas and food. (For you guys we should also add in the bump in Tylenol sales that must occur after opening day for sore muscles, but we won’t go there for now.)
This year we have had 1795 "man days" hunted equating to $42,110 in spending that you have brought to the community.
You have raised $22,020 for the park thru the Friends Of Lake Sonoma. This money goes directly to the park and funds: the educational programs at the visitor center, the pig hunts, Investigation of other hunting opportunities and, field work on recreation projects like trails.
I don’t know how many of you folks camped this winter, but I'm guessing that you made up the majority of our winter campers. Until I have a way to get these numbers, I’ll will leave this out of the equation.
The bottom line is that you folks represent $64,130 in value to us and our community; you are helping to control an invasive species and you are supporting the park thru your use.
Good work folks!
