well my buddy and i decided that we would try some place new, and it all worked out after a little advice from a park ranger. heres the story we glassed a few valleys for most of the moring only seeing a couple of does, and a whole bunch of promising sign. dissapointed and thinking that we were not going to see anthing else we started back down the road towards the truck. when we spotted a boar a hundred yards away on the hill side across from us. the wind was gusting pretty hard and i was thinking to my self there i now way i can make this shot in the wind using a shot gun. so i waited until there was a dead spot between gusts but by this time the boar had turned facing away from us with half of him behind a bush, well i took the shot in the only place i could and hit him right between the hams spliting his pelvic bone and sending him off down into the gully. so we down the ridge to cut him off and couldnt see him any where when he popped out of the bush mad as hell about ten feet from us with just enough time for my buddy to put one in his chest finishing him off, it was an exciting morning after all. we went back and hunted the same area this morning and boy if i only had an elk tag they were every where so if you guys know anyone doing some elk hunting this is the place to go, i had so many oppertunities and was able to get so close to them it wasnt even funny.but it made for another great day of hunting even though we walked away empty handed.

Is this the dinosaur point at San Luis Reservoir?
I hear pig are pretty scarce there, job well done.

Elk??? There are Elk there? It's not a hunt zone so must be PLM animals, eh?

Congrats on the hog. Nothing like taking one on public property. Hope the drag out of the valley floor wasn't too bad.

yes the area is by san luis resivor, i didnt see any ear tags on the elk up there and i dont know if there protected or not just thought i would let people know that they are there if you could hunt them. either way they were incredable to watch and took up some of the day while hoping to spot a deer.

You obviously paid your dues to finally catch up to the wily porker. Dino Point always looked so dry and barren to me that it seemed like a long shot finding one there. However, I have seen dead pigs as roadkill alongside that highway, so I know that they are there. Also, a while back, some fellow posted a photo of a pig swimming in San Luis Res.
Great job. It doesn't get any better than that!

Awesome job on your porker. Been wanting to check out this place for awhile. As I have mentioned on an earlier thread that I came across a bunch of pigs a few years back, it's good that you show proof these critters are still around. I might be heading out there sooner than I expect. Great pics too.
