If you've followed my posts any the past few years you know I suck at shed hunting, or the areas I look in are bad, either way I've only found a tiny piece of antler and 6 dead bucks the past 5 or 6 years. Well, back in Novemeber I hit and lost a nice buck and today I was out looking to see if I could find him in case we missed him. Wasn't really looking for sheds, as I came to the spot where I found a dead 9 point a few years back I ducked under a branch and as I brought my head up, right there on the EXACT spot where I found that 9 point was a nice 4 point side. Unbelievable, when I look for sheds I find dead bucks and when I look for dead bucks I find sheds!

Anyway, even though I found a piece of a shed 2 years ago, this was much more satisfying and it finally feels like I've ripped a monkey I couldn't shake off my back.

btw I'm trying to get my site back up, so I'm uploading this to JHO for now, I actually managed to contain my excitement enough to not pick it up before getting some as it lay shots.

thanks guys, I just kinda stood there for a minute in a state of disbelief that on my first trip out for the whole year, and while not even really looking that hard I find a shed laying amongst the bones of a dead buck I found a few years earlier.

I actually walked past the spot where this antler was a few times last year, I either missed it, or it was dropped after I stopped looking out at my uncles. I figure from the loss of almost all coloration that this one's at least a year old.

My first one took me 3 years of searching so i know how you feel. Hopefully this will be the beginning of many successful shed outings for you. But hey any day in the woods is a good one! Finding an antler is just icing on the cake in my book.

thanks guys, after my 4 dead buck season last year I was beginning to think I'd never find just a shed.

I think maybe I should just always look for dead deer, maybe I'll find more sheds lol
