Hello all, the name may change, i just picked this out of the air for this post but a bunch of us Leather Wallers got together at Shiloh Ranch Hunting Camp to stick some hogs and man did we have a good time. Keep an eye out for the next one, the talk is to do this every year, make it an annual event, you cant beat the fun, food and people you will meet.
Any way ive got a story and some pics to show you so here we go.
Arived at the ranch at noon on Friday, met every one and Matt and Cheryl gave us all the low down on the ranch and I got a lesson on how to put on and attach a tree stand harness. Yes thats right i have never hunted from a tree stand before.
We all started out aropuind 4:30 pm to be on stand around 5:00. I got to my stand, tied my bow to the rope and climbed up my first tree stand, got to the top took my pack off and hooked up, started to turn around to sit down and a hog came in and was feeding 10 yards from the stand, i get turned around and sat down and there i am, my first hunt from a tree stand, im stuck in the stand with a hog at ten yards and my bow on the ground tied to a rope. I almost started laughing. I got the bow about half way up and the hog cought the movment and was gone. Now im setting there with a big smile on my face thinking this is gooing to be a fun weekend.
About 20 min before last light i could hear hogs feeding behind me heading my way. They get close enough for me to see them, on my left there are 3 or 4 nice size sows comming in and on my left there are 2 good size boars just tearing each other up, knocking each other over, squeling, dirt fling. The sows come out first, as soon as the lead sows head gets behind a tree i draw and anchor, they stop, I hold as long as i can and let down, as soon as i do the start to walk again, I come back to full draw and wack, a little high and far back but luck was with me, took out both arteries just below the spine, 30 yards and fell over. Had to wait about 5 min to stop shaking enough to unhook and climb down. I kind of like this tree stand stuff. Here is a pic
Here is a pick of a good looking gray boar taken by another hunter in camp
Here is a realy nice boar taken by a young man. This has a story behind it that i will try to tell, he is not a leather waller yet but will be soon.
The bow used was a 40# Bear that was given to him by his grandpa. Wooden arrows from 3Rivers along with 3 blade COC broadheads he got from 3Rivers also. This was his first hunt with a trad bow and his first hog hunt.
Its Saturday night just about dark he hadent seen anything all day then this big old boar comes in he draws and lets fly, the shot could have not been better low and tight to the shoulder. THe boar went down in about 40 yards.
Check out the shot placement on this young mans boar with grandpa's #40 Bear bow
Hope you enjoyed, I had a blast
