My friend Logan got this nice 6 point in Arizona on Monday. He and our friend Reg executed a perfect plan that got this guy to within 125 yards of Logan when he let him have it with a 165 gr. Partition from his Lazzeroni Patriot. The bull scored 302.

Good job Logan.

I really want to thank Reg and his son, Mark, for all the help on my elk hunt. It will be on my mind for a long time. It will be in my memory for ever.
Also, thanks to Don, ar4000, for all the technical help with the rifle loads and ballistics and such.
Reg, Mark, and Myself really worked hard to get this bull. The elk are amazing animals and we learned a ton during our adventure.
Can't wait for someone to get drawn again, so we can try again.

Just had an official measurement on the elk. It was interesting to watch the process and learn at the same time. It was measured by an SCI (Safari Club International), master measurer.

It is crazy what kind of numbers as far as measurements are thrown around on the TV shows that have elk hunting. I think the guides talk up the score of some of the animals, in order to get a tip from the hunter and look good on TV. I don't think this does much good in the long-run, as people clearly see that the elk is not the size they are claiming.

Never the less, it seems very difficult to judge an animal in the field and judging on TV it is not very precise.

Anyway the initial measurement was 302 and the official measurement is 297 4/8.

This is a great animal, especially for my first elk on my first elk tag.

Logan,
Nice animal and an equally nice Euro Mount! Which is a real practical way to go with most homes in Southern Calif. :) As for the measurements.....don't matter how you crunch'em, as long as that rascal fits in the "Oven" or the "Crock Pot" !

I have the cape getting tanned for the full mount, but it may be a while before I actually have it done. Yes, the practicality of the mount is an issue.
I can't wait to go on another elk hunt, even if I am not the guy with the tag. It is such and experience.
It is a good thing that I am not just filthy rich, then I might go on an extended hunting adventure and just return each january and plan and prepare the rest of the year.

Thanks for the comments.
