Going to FHL for the first time this weekend and had just one more question for you regulars. The weekly hunting update was posted this morning and it indicated "Archery/Muzzleloader B's only" Looking at the map as I understand it this means areas 6B,12B,13B and 16B are my choices at this point? If this is true would I be better off in the areas around the main gate or over by 12B near Nacimiento Fergusson Road?

As a warm up and fact finding mission I did a guided hunt on a private ranch yesterday and although I went with the intention of taking one with the bow after five or six blown stalks and time running out I decided to use the rifle and was able to take a nice little boar but most importantly I gained a vast amount of knowledge about pig hunting.

Cjack I just looked at the site, and this is posted at the top of the page. You might want to call and check before you drive all that way. And i do believe that B's is Buck Shot.

There will be no hunting on Hunter Liggett through 26 April, 2013

Nice hog! I just saw that post about FHL and broke my heart. I just zeroed my rifle yesterday got my new pack and gps and was pretty set on going so now I need to wait till April 26 for my chance at filling my pig tag!? Guess I sharpened my knife before the hunt.

I hear ya, If I remember correctly this was going to be your first trip there too. Now it sounds like we'll be dealing with crowded conditions when they do re-open.

There's a buttload of training going on. Until most of the folks are out of Afganistan, you can expect it to be like this. Apparently, the terrain at FHL is very similiar to the Army's AOR in Afganistan.

I do think there are some up coming deployments and that's probably why.

Yea it was going to be my first trip so this may be good or bad. Maybe less hunting pressure could bring in some more pigs but the training could also scare them off so will just head down there when it reopens and see how it goes.
