After 36 years of living in California and a few unsuccessful attempts on public land I finally got my first hog last Sat. We were hunting a ranch he scored permision to hunt just outside Soledad. We went back Sat to site in our rifle and lucked upon a second hog. On Sat my friend and I each shot one from the same group, one small boar for me, about 90lbs, and a big sow for him, about 200lbs. We swore they were twice that big when we shot. I also had the fun of having to go into a large brush pile to find the two hogs after they were shot. Mine was dead, but his was not. Needless to say I was in the middle of the brush with my .41 mag pistol when she started snorting and coming toward me, based on the moving brush tops I could see. Luckily she stopped about 10 yards away, turned and evetually stuck her head out where my friend finished her with one behind the ear. My second one shot up out of a brush pile and ran uphill, I made a good shot at about 65 yards, through both lungs, but when he stopped after running 50 yards, I finished him with a nice shot in the left ear that came out the right eye.
Needless to say, all the hogs will make some great Jalepeno-Cheddar sausage, unfortunately since I live in Idaho now and couldn't wait for them to get processed, I'll have to wait till next Nov, when my buddy comes out to elk hunt to have some. Boy do I owe him, 2 pigs in 3 days of hunting.
