Hi everyone!!
I have not been here in awhile sadly
, but for a good reason!! I was to busy hunting!!
I was never able to score on my big buck but I enjoyed the pursuit immensely nonetheless!!
Anyways, on Christmas eve I was in my stand as usual
overlooking our feeder about 100yds away. I just new this would be my day!!
I had my 30/30 this time because it has a scope with a red dot you can turn on when it gets to dark, cool huh?
Well some does came in to eat and I watched them for awhile and then one of the tall spikes we are supposed to shoot for management purposes but I was not wasting my tag for that, let the men shoot the little ones!!
Anyways, it got dark and my deer never showed.
The him had told me to sit up there if I felt like it to see if the pigs that had been raiding our feeder would show up at dark.
Although the stand is only about 400yds from the back yd. I am not an after sundown by myself kind of a girl
and more
!!! I told myself that I would sit for an hour and then call them up on the Walkie talk to come and get me!!!
Well, About 30 mins. later I was looking through the binoculars and I saw a pig standing in the road about 200 yds away!!
I tried to get my gun up but when I looked through the scope he Wasn't there!!
Well I knew it was probably going to come to the feeder so I kept my eye on that.
About five mins. later I saw something moving on the feeder and when I got the scope on it I already had the red dot turned on. With only moonlight it was hard to see it clearly and it looked like just a small one. As I watched, it jumped up on it's hind legs and stuck it's head in the feeder trough
.The feeder is what we call a free choice type, no timer or anything, just holes where the deer ( and apparently
) stick there heads in and eat whenever and how much they want to!!! It will hold 700Lbs. of corn and protein
and we had been filling it every ten days to two wks lately!????
Well I got the dot on his chest and started to squeeze and KA-BOOM!! No pig!?! Gone!?! Radio for help!!
They brought the dog( RUGER) and gave me the shotgun!! Well he found it within 100yds. of the feeder and the fight was on!!! He broke and ran farther into the creek but there was lots of blood!! When we got there the second time Ruger had him holed in some brush and as they held the flashlight I circled around for a shot!!!
When the dog was clear I shot at about 15ft. and then the pig was gone again???
No way I missed that shot!!
Well I didn't!!
He made it about 20ft.and fell over!! When we shined the light on it I realized it was BIG!! He weighed 218lbs. on the scale so maybe 225lbs alive? Anyway, that's my story of the (FEEDER RAIDING HOG) Hope you enjoyed the story as much as I enjoyed the hunt!!!
TTFN, Cathy
P.S. Ruger got bit but we sewed him with spiderwire fishing line!! Tuff Puppy!!
