After spending about 5-6 hours looking this year, I found my first shed of the season. At first I didn't think I had seen this buck before, but then I found a couple of pictures of him. He should be pretty nice next year, lots of mass for the size of the rack.

Hey Coyotebandit, nice shed and glad to see ya on the score board. Good pic of the buckthat was carrying it...really good. I kind of get the impression finding sheds is not a "walk in the park: out your way either. I scored my first this past Friday and will post it here as well.

Deershed, believe it or not I picked that shed up on my lunch hour Friday. I skipped lunch and ran up to the park and quickly walked a tree line/field edge with heavy cover. Found it with the boot prints of what looks like another shed hunter right within feet of it. Went back and looked again for the match and again ran into the other tracks....so, odds aren't good. However, there is snow there and the one looked like it had just come free of snow, so will make another pass when it's off. Read my post on State Park shed hunting and let me know your thoughts.

Congrats on your first shed of the year!! Goodluck on finding more.

Shag congrats to you too. I will be darn glad when this snow is gone here. Been torture sitting around and waiting for it to melt. deershed ain't helping the torture part of the ordeal either with all his finds and shorts/tank top weather. LOL

Thanks Shag, it's good to hear I'm not the only one having a slow start this season. I hope things pick up, last year I only found one! I wish I had a place to go on my lunch hour to hunt.

deershed,

I hope so, it can be tough some years, two years ago I spent over 25 hours with nothing to show for it, sometimes I can't find them anywhere, other times they are right in front of me! This shed had been in the sun for awhile and pretty well bleached, you can see on the deer it had a nice dark color.

CONGRATS!!Way to go finding that other side. Were you looking special for that guy or just happen upon it?Either way it's a matching set and matching sets always look great in the pile.
You definately need to pop some squirrel off next fall.LOL Those squirrel are nasty to you and your sheds.
Congrats again and good luck on finding more.

deershed,

I was about a mile away from where I found the other half, at first I thought it couldn't have been the same buck, but I'm pretty sure it is. I was just looking for sheds, I love finding matched sets, but most of the time I'm just happy finding anything before the rodents do. Trust me, we have more squirrels than you can even shoot. I used to hunt them a lot until I became hooked on bowhunting! I often see 6 or more at once while in my stand!

CB,

Congrats on the finds... and a good distance apart to boot... Thats what makes it amazing. sounds like you covered the ground well... Them squirels sure do Numbers on them Horns,,,Thats a shame there getting to them before you, At least your still finding them as they are, You must have a good eye for them.

We have a ton of squirels here too, Im betting there beating me to them. Or I just cannot see the darn things.. I beat the bush pretty hard this weekend, Found a skull from my avatar Buck and aFox skull, at leats I believe it to be a fox skull. No sheds at all.
