What's the story behind your first shed you ever found--the first one you ever found while actually out looking for sheds on purpose? I looked for a couple years I think without any luck but was determined. It was a hard winter with lots of snow. I got onto a bunch or 7 or 8 deer pounding a small one acre standing corn patch and bedding right there, not moving around too much. I pounded that spot until I found a 4 point side off a 2.5 year old buck embedded in clear ice where it fell in a tiny stream he crossed near the corn. I kept after it until about one week later I saw tines sticking out of the snow right near their beds and got the other half.

I found my first shed today!

I made a trip out to check one of my cams. I usually take my shotgun with me in case I need to fend off any attacking rabbits, squirrels or grouse.

I've always kept a watchful eye out for sheds but have never found any before. I've been out in my deer woods more since I discovered the new sport of camming.

Today, I was intent on covering a lot of ground in search of sheds. After roughly one hour, I found the shed directly under a fence, in a well used runway. I seen 19 deer on our hunting property and 11 on bordering property. I didn't have my binos with me to check for any bucks still sporting antlers. Our buck to doe ratio is really out of whack with far more does than bucks. You can imagine how excited I was to find this shed. The shed is from a young deer and only has two points. It's small but I'm happy with it. We have a partial snow melt and it wasn't covered with snow. I looked for a while for the match but gave up and went on searching the fence line of the property. Darkness fell before I was ready to leave. I'll get back out there on my next day off.

Congrats on your first shed spotty. I've only found 1 whitetail spike, 1 elk spike, and 1 small 3-point whitetail shed(chewed to pieces). All while out hunting or fishing, never when actually looking for sheds although I put in many hours every year. But I'm not going to let that stop me.

Shag-that's pretty good finding your first shed then going out and finding the other half to make it your first shed find and matching set.
I tried to figure out my first shed find, but just can't seem to remember.I do know when I started off looking for sheds they were far and few in between.
I'm almost certain my first shed was actually a broke off piece of antler with 3 pts. on it.
I found it on a deer trail running the side of a hill. The end of the main beam was sticking in the ground. I remember when I found it I could picture the deer running along and falling for what ever reason and the rack busting off when it hit the ground.
Antler was stuck pretty good,so I figured it had to hit ground pretty good to end up that way.

Spotty-Congrats!!Hope it's only the first on many more.

I found my first shed the easy way. I was out cruising the backroads in August checking out the deer sign when something caught my eye. I stopped the truck and put it in reverse and wow, a nice 4 point antler with a sticker. It has a 24" main and a 12 1/4" G2. It sat there all summer until someone more observant came along and spotted it.

Interesting, a few guys weighing in that havn't found many yet but they're clearly getting addicted already. Wait'll you snag that first big 5 point side. You'll be hammering the woods every morning from when the snow starts comin off until the grass gets too tall to look any more. Bad as drugs.

I found my first this year after hunting 33 years. Just about dumped a gutpile on it from a deer I had strung up
