This will be my first trip to CR and I am very Green at hunting for Hogs. Does anyone have any advice on what works best? I have always parked and hiked but am not sure if that is the best approach. Thanks Brian

Camp Roberts is soooo versitile. I take a shotgun and a rifle when I go.
There are lots of open area to spot, there is medium distance oak studded grassland, and some thick brushy stuff, and water mixed-in for the rifle areas. Good spot-n-stalk stuff.
There's a river that runs through both rifle and shotgun areas, close to a closed area. The pigs like to travel from the closed area to the river, and roam around the river too. Great for an ambush.

My game plan this time (which was successful last May) was given to me by some guy trapping birds for research, and developed through several unsuccessful trips scouting the terrain. Good Luck!

Well, what is the game plan? Not asking for areas you are hunting, just the type of stratagie (SP?)

My strategy this time is to go to a spot I know on the river and sit there forever. Hopefully it will pay off.

Blastmaster is right. There is places by the river that you can get up and personal with hogs. Or you can go to others and glass. Take your time and learn the map. The first time I was there, it took me a couple hours just to be sure of what area I was in. Good luck for those who can make this hunt and tell us where they are for next months. Looking

Hey Cda55,
Did you guys figure out where you're gonna camp at yet? I still haven't finalized anything yet. Let me know, hope to see you there.

My spot is further up stream in area 4. I'll have my 3006 with me. If I get one on Saturday with the rifle, I'll go again on Sunday to area 7 with the bow.

Ok-Ok, but don't tell anybody.
Spot-n-Stalk the AM in the rifle areas covered in medium density by oaks.
Sleep (because I drove all night getting there) early PM
Ambush at a predetermined spot near the river with slugs till it's time to carry my piggy out

You won't see me though, unless you go 12/27.
Good luck, man! One hint though, if you want a good ambush, skip the sleep and go find the "pig superhiway" before 3PM, so you can set up early.

Hey Blastmaster. Does your snoring while taking that nap attract hogs?
