here he is at home

[attachment=28814:attachment]

these are all of the sheds i have found this year. the only fresh one is the litle thick spike

[attachment=28815:attachment]

this is my best for the year, it is last years model, but in great shape. it has 2 brow tines, making it a 6 point if you count the smaller tine that is only an inch. i measured it at 66 inches. found it on first day out

went out for four hours today in whitetail country. i found two fresh ones (finally) pretty much my fresh ones ever. i also found to old broken horns, one scull with 2in nubs left, and a 5/6 scull. nothing great, but it was worth the walk.

todays finds

5/6

two small freshes (whitetail antlers in my area are already white on the deer) still flesh under the burs, nice to find fresh ones!

me with 5/6. he is prolly only a 3 and a half year old. not huge, but in a few years he would have been nice, he already has 3 nice kickers

[attachment=28916:attachment]

mullies4ever, i am gonna make a nice skull out of him.i put him in water right after i took the pics because his skin is stuck to him like glue, and he stinks to high heven. i talked to a guy who does european mounts for ppl today and he said to soak him in water with 3 pounds of baking soda in it for a few day so i am gonna put some in tommorow (hope it works)

GREAT JOB HORNS! THAT WILL MAKE A GREAT SKULL. BE PATIENT THE HYDE IS PRETTY TOUGH TO GET OFF BUT IT IS WORTH THE EFFORT. GET THE HYDE OFF FIRST THEN BOIL FOR A FEW HOURS AND START PICKING STUFF OFF. YOUR FIRST TIME IS TRIAL AND ERROR. IF ANY TEETH OR NOSE PARTS COME OFF, SAVE THEM AND GLUE THEM BACK ON WHEN YOU ARE DONE. IT MAY TAKE A FEW BOILS BUT DONT LEAVE IT BOILING TOO LONG. AFTER YOU ARE DONE THEN SOAK IT IN PURE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE TO GET RID OF THE SMELL. THIS WILL TURN IT A NICE WHITE. I LISTED THIS ON ANOTHER POST BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW NICE A SKULL WILL LOOK WHEN ITS DONE. POST SOME PICS OF THE FINAL PRODUCT.

HERES ANOTHER. THIS WAS ACTUALLY MY 2005 ARCHERY MULEY. NOT THE BIGGEST BUT HE WAS TASTY! HE WAS ALSO WELL EARNED. I HAD A LITTLE TROUBLE WITH HIS NOSE BONES AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURE.

YES IT WILL. YOU NEED TO KEEP THE ANTLERS OUT OF THE PEROXIDE. ONLY THE SKULL SHOULD BE SUBMERGED.THE AREA BETWEEN THE ANTLERS CAN BE CURED BY SOAKING COTTON BALLS IN THE PEROXIDE AND PLACED TO KEEP THE AREA MOIST.

i dont know if he is good enough to put that much work into. i wish i could find the old ones that are already cleaned up. alot less time consuming, time that i can spend looking for more antlers.

i think i will try covering the skull with thin rags and then pour the peroxide on them, shouldnt use as much. how long does it need to soak?

i have it soaking in baking soda water now, and the antlers are partly submerged, will water discolor them? cause if it does, i might have really messed it up already

thanks deershed, its better than i could have hopped for my first year. still nothing compared to yours though. everyone arround hear thinks its funny that i do it and that it is a waste of time, but if they only knew the rush you get when you find something u are looking for.

YEAH NO WASTE OF TIME BY MY BOOK. ANYWAY THE WATER WONT HURT THE RACK AT ALL. JUST HAVE PATIENCE AND LEARN ON THESE SO THAT WHEN YOU GET ONE THAT YOU LOVE YOU CAN DO IT. I DIDNT MENTION THIS EARLIER BUT DONT BOIL IN THE HOUSE. ONLY DO THIS ON THE BARBEQUE OR OUTSIDE BURNER.
HOW WIDE WAS THAT MULIE YOU FOUND. I WOULDVE LOVED TO DO THAT SKULL. HE IS REAL NICE.
