IM a week late with this story but I just got the pic . A longtime friend of mine and a first rate fisherman had never hunted any thing but birds before and after a little convincing and a few trips to the range he agreed to go on a hog hunt. Now as he had never big game hunted before I was determined that he would have a good experience and asked Deedy if we could come over and hunt with her. The forecast was hot and the hogs were very nocturnal but we saw hogs every trip out and as usual deedy and karin were excellent hosts. my friend learned as much as anyone could from deedy and karin who are great teachers and by the end of the trip we could see that he learned well. The resort was great and he was very impressed with the cabins and the whole package deedy provided,as I am and Ive been back several times to prove it. Deedy as the gracious host she is felt that we needed to get a quick trip out with tom willoughby at the ranch he had been finding hogs on and that weekend, bighog and jacob had been successful on the same property. So late sunday evening found us on a big property with blake and tommy and first up was the novice with a 60 yrd shot on a group of 12 hogs and after a great stalk ,he scored a solid hit and down went a nice sow shot straight thru the heart . Next after a crazy truck ride, basically round in a circle I shot a nice meat sow just at dark as she nosed round the gutpile from earlier. My sincere thanks go to deedy for making this a fantastic hunt and to karin also for her great sense of humour in dealing with oafs like me , tommy and blake are pro hunters in the extreme sense and gave a great hunt even more flavor. See one pic of my buddys hog mine was too dark to show well . Bryson resort works its magic again and my buddy is talking about a repeat in the fall after it cools down, the hogs are waiting for that

Nice!

I watched Sat as Tom and Blake set up a guy from Oragan on a nice Sow.

Cool kill to watch but I'd have to use my hands to explain all that happened.................

Been married to an Italian too long maybe
<

And those cabins are Sweet...........Love the DVD selection.........I watched Rock Star about 5 times, I was much to tired to walk to the office.

I just got access to a piece of property that definitely has hogs.
We've seen well travelled trail and diggings that suggest daily visits to a citrus orchard.

What is the best time to expect hogs to be moving to/from the orchards?

Would waiting at a vantage point be recommended?

Thanks

Irish,
Congrats to you and your big friend, I'm really glad you guys were successful. I'm sure your friend will agree, shooting birds is challenging and a lot of fun, but the adrenaline rush from big game hunting can not be rivaled. I bet he's hooked for life now like the rest of us. It was nice meeting you both and I'm sure we'll have more time some day to talk again.

Hi Irish- thanks for the great review- we are always really really happy to see you. I have the best picture of the two of you - and yes you are smiling! I'll e-mail it over to you.

A big Hi

to everyone else too! "rooter to the tooter" that is great One Track. Love it.

FT- My advise for you is... take more than one movie to the cabin next time.

I would have to second Kentuck's informative answer about the piggie's in the orchard. Be there at first light or dusk.
Waiting at a vantage point? Well, if the vantage point is at the highest elevated spot in the orchard then yes. Then you can spot and stalk. Piggies can come in one way one day, and another way the next day.

Bigisle,

Welcome to JHO! Wow, another one from the islands.

First JHO rule, it's mandatory to post pictures and tell story of the hunt.

Docsherry had lately been remiss of his duties to regal us with his hunting adventures. So we'll hope you'll fill in the slack

thank you deedy in looking forward to getting back to bryson ,looks like november for the combo hunt we talked about .The guys just got back from africa and need to catch up with a few things and im out for a 3 week period , so we hope to see you before thanksgiving with about 6 in the group. As a side note the pig in picture had about a half inch of cover more than ive ever seen on a hog and is the best eating also.
