Fish and Wildlife Commission to meet in Springfield Friday

ODFW

Commission will host public open house Thursday evening, hold Executive Session Friday morning

PORTLAND — The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will hold its next meeting Friday, December 13, at the Eugene-Springfield Double Tree Hotel in Springfield beginning at 8 am. The public is invited to attend this meeting as well as an open house to be held in the same location Thursday, December 12, from 7 —9 pm.

The open house is an opportunity for the public to meet the Commissioners and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife staff. The Commission will participate in a tour of ODFW projects in the surrounding area earlier in the day, and will discuss various topics with ODFW staff in an informal setting.

During the morning portion of the Friday meeting the Commission will break for an Executive Session to consult with staff and legal counsel regarding current litigation and pending cases.

The agenda following the Executive Session includes:

Access and Habitat (A&H) Sunset Repeal: A member of the A&H Board will brief the Commission on a proposal to permanently repeal the A&H sunset on House Bill 2538.
Sturgeon Options: Department staff will ask the Commission to provide guidance with respect to sturgeon options for 2003.

2003 Groundfish, Pacific Halibut and Sardine Regulations: Department staff will ask the Commission to adopt rules establishing regulations for recreational and commercial groundfish and Pacific halibut fisheries during 2003. These rules, by reference, will adopt related federal regulations and will adopt future federal regulations for sardine fisheries.

Fish Screening Task Force Member Appointment: Department staff will ask the Commission to review and appoint a member to the task force.

Columbia and Willamette Rivers 2003 Spring Chinook and Selective Fisheries: Department staff will provide a review of the 2003 spring Chinook fishery and the Select fishery options.

Public testimony on scheduled agenda items is encouraged. Sign-up sheets are provided the day of the meeting.

Public testimony on other topics is called ‘unscheduled testimony,’ and begins at 1 p.m. Members of the public who bring unscheduled items before the Commission are allowed five minutes each. Appearances can be arranged by calling Mike Lueck in the Director's Office at 503-872-5272.

Reasonable accommodation for individuals needing assistive hearing devices, sign language interpreters or materials in large print will be provided as needed. Please call Lueck in advance of the meeting to make arrangements for any necessary accommodation.
