• SACRAMENTO RIVER, Sacramento - There was good trolling for smallish striped bass (to 8 pounds) between Rio Vista and Freeport, and around Verona. But fishing was slow through Sacramento proper, except for catfish in slow parts of the river and in the many area sloughs.• SACRAMENTO RIVER, Knights Landing - Fishing for striped bass was good for both numbers and quality. There were a number of stripers caught - and lost - last week, up to and exceeding 20 pounds. Streamer flies continued to catch their share, as did minnows. The best fishing was between Knights Landing and Meridian. Good news for boaters: The new boat ramp at Tisdale is almost finished.• DELTA, SACRAMENTO RIVER side - Rio Vista Bait Shop said the striper bite was wide open last week, with limits being taken throughout the system by trollers as well as by baitfishing. Trollers worked the top 15 feet and ran at about 3 mph. One limit included a 30-pounder caught in Montezuma Slough, trolling a P-Line Predator.• ICE HOUSE RESERVOIR - Anglers picked up limits of rainbows here, according to Julie Siebert at Ice House Resort. Try trolling half a 'crawler or a brown grub. Early morning has been the best time for trollers.• NORTH COAST RIVERS Beginning Oct. 1, portions of several North and Central coast streams are governed by low flow closures. Always call ahead to be sure the river you're planning to fish is open. The DFG's North Coast River Hotline: (707) 442-4502; for the Central Coast, call: (707) 944-5533.MAD RIVER--Some steelies mingling around in the estuary but nothing to get excited about yet.ROGUE RIVER, Lower--Kings to 50 pounds were taken here last week by anglers towing Rogue Bait rigs with anchovies and cutplug herring behind Big Al's flashers. There have been a few coho around--big ones up to 17 pounds--but not really enough to target just yet. Upstream near Agness, the steelhead bite has been solid in the riffles with nightcrawlers and spinners.
