Fl muzzle loader pig

opening weekend of muzzleloader in Fl. Didnt't see any Bucks but Sunday evening I hear something walking in the water coming out of the swamp to me. As soon as I see black moving through the cypress and vines, I am thinking its a small bear but then I see another one thats red. I get my gun ready and they came out at 40yards. I think this sow is ~100lbs and the red one is 50lbs. Have 30 minutes of shooting time left but decide not to wait on a deer that probably won't show up. I shoot the "100lb sow". I found blood and trailed it about 40 yards to the sow. My 100lb sow was over 200lbs. I need to not climb so high in the tree. I am a terrible judge of size of a hog from a tree stand.
I couldn't load her in the truck by my self, had to gut her out and put the back tires of the truck down in a ditch to get the tailgate lower to load her (okay the wife is right, maybe I am a little out of shape). Sorry about the pic but just took a quick one with the phone before skinning it (its butt is 6' off the ground).

congrats on the pig! What muzzle loader did you use?

I just bought a 50 cal. CVA wolf. Its fairly inexpensive and I like the break action, easier to put the primer on and a lot easier to clean IMO. I had bought my daughter one last year an liked it so well I bought one for myself

wow...even with the starter kit it's only around $300.00. That's a pretty good deal!

Did you look at the Thompson Center rifles before buying the CVA for your daughter? If so, any opinions?

I found the CVA wolf on sale for $140 when I bought my daughters so didn't do much looking. and 2 weeks ago my father-in-law asked if I could get his breech plug out of his gun. long story, I ended up giving him my inline and 3 days before opening day I am shopping for a new one. Local Walmart had a cva wolf for $167 so I bought it, since I was familiar with it. I always have my 30 yr old TC Renegade as a back up. I love the Renegade.

inchr48, yep, that looks like mine. I have killed more with that renegade than any other gun I own, but don't hunt with it much anymore. I have gotten where I like having a scope too much.

We had permits for a blackpowder hunt on a WMA this past weekend and after seeing the picture you posted I decided to use my old renegade the first day and got a 90 lb. boar with it. It felt good using the old gun. My daughter got a 125 lb sow and I took her boyfriend as my guest and he got a 85 lb. boar. Pigs were everywhere but no deer.

I've got a deer reduction hunt coming up the 14th and 15th of this month.
