Nope. Can only hunt on base Sat/Sun/Holiday. You could hunt the national forest however on friday if you wanted to.

I just called and checked and it is OK to hunt with a hand gun with a barrel length of 6 inches or more( have you seen my pic) and using non lead bullets (Barnes bullets).

I am not sure what areas are open for this weekend but I am itching to get out.

I stay out of there during deer season. Its a draw on friday to get into a area and those guys wait all year to deer hunt so i stay away as to not walk through their hunting spot. Soon as deer season is over i will be hitting it for pigs again.

It is getting harder and harder to hunt at FHL. First, you have to buckel up while driving (driving around your hunting area). Second, firearm must be in a secured soft/hard case while the vehicle is in motion. That is even when you are driving with in your hunting area. Next, you can only hunt with rifle in selected/limited/shitty hunting area. Last, you can only hunt with Pork & Spoon. It's driving me nuts. :skeered:

Yes I have seen pigs pulled out of there ( pulled pork:))
and I have seen pigs in there. They keep track of game taken out of there and I think you could call them up and ask how many pigs have been taken out to date.

Dont have the full intel Larry. All i know is the hunter got hospitalize and his vehilcle towed to king city.
Reason...... reaching for his gun while driving:skeered:and fromted the base commander to make the new law.

1.You can't handle your firearms while driving inside the base.off road or not.
It has to be inside a case unloaded (soft or hard).

Hi all-
Has anyone got a ticket for driving with your gun outside the case? I know during Deer season, everyone has thier guns in gun racks or in thier hands while on base.

I was pulled over last year during Deer season and was checked for documentation and my firearms were not in any type of gun case.

I was just wondering if it is one of those laws that the do not enforce?

Comments anyone?

It looks I won't be up there. With the area's open and the restrictions in place i'm just going to stay home and hunt VAFB most likely.

Weekender, good luck up there.

CaliJeephuntr-
I know you have been hunting over the past year. Did you have any experience with my questions above?

Hntboar, the gun in case regulation was just passed this past July. So last year it was legal to have a gun in a gun rack with bullets in the magazine while you drive about the hunting area. But now that is not legal. From what i've heard everyone has been pretty compliant with the rule and that there have been no tickets issued. I could be wrong on that, but seems like most people are trying to abide by the rule despite the grumbling that is going on (and there is a lot of grumbling).

I'm sure the rule will be enforced by LEA if you don't have the gun in the case and you're checked.
