My Dad (Sully) and I just got back from a trip to Wauchula Florida. We started hunting Wed. and ended on Mon. We saw pigs everyday we were there, all after noon. We brought the bows and the guns, but primarily gun hunted.
Thursday ran into some hogs while we were driving the ranch. We hopped out of the car and my dad shot a nice calico sow. The group circled around and came back towards us, and out comes a monster black boar. I drew down and shot at him on the run, right over his back
. We talked to the ranch owners and they said a black boar lived in that swamp that was over 250 lbs. We couldnt find my dads pig, and there was no blood.
Nothing happened till Saturday, I got to my evening stand where that big boar has been seen the most, and my surrogate grandfather was in another stand. My dad decided to ground hunt, and I heard shots within 10 minutes of sitting in my stand. 2 pigs down. One boar about 90-100 pounds, and one football sized sow.
Sunday night, my grandad got a nice Sow. And I got a small calico.
Monday night, boiled my blood. I had been hunting that big boar I saw, and sure enough...my dad sees it. He puts one in his shoulder with the 30-30, and guess what, yet again, there is no sign of the pig and no blood. Now, I let the first incident slide, but two is way too many. I kept saying "The least you could do is put a decent shot on it so I can see the thing!!!"
All-In-All, we had a great trip. Great Weather and Great People.
